Should You Lather Up Shower Gel Before Using It Or Apply It Directly?

The correct order for using shower gel is to apply it to your skin first and then rub it in, rather than squeezing it directly onto your body and rubbing it dry.

When skin is wet, pores are open. Applying a large amount of shower gel directly at this time can lead to three problems: First, it's difficult to control the dosage, potentially causing waste or residue; second, undiluted shower gel is too concentrated and can irritate sensitive skin; third, any accumulated liquid can easily slide off the skin, affecting the cleansing effect.

 

The correct process should involve three steps:

1. Activate lather: Squeeze an appropriate amount of shower gel onto your wet palm or a bath sponge, add a small amount of water, and rub until a rich lather forms;

2. Apply to specific areas: Start applying to areas with high sebum production, such as the chest and back, and cleanse drier areas like the limbs last;

3. Gentle massage: Use your fingertips to gently massage the skin in circular motions, especially on areas with thicker skin like the knees and elbows, where you can massage for a longer time.

 

Note that shower gels containing exfoliating particles need to be emulsified beforehand. When these types of products come into direct contact with the skin, the particles can easily cause excessive friction and damage to the stratum corneum. Regarding bath water temperature, hot water between 38-40℃ helps the surfactants in the shower gel to work more effectively, but water temperatures exceeding 45℃ can actually accelerate moisture loss from the skin.

For infants or people with sensitive skin, it is recommended to choose amino acid-based, mildly acidic shower products. These products, after lathering, are closer to the skin's natural pH value. If the skin feels tight after use, apply a moisturizing cream within three minutes of drying the body. At this time, the skin's absorption channels are not yet fully closed, resulting in a more significant moisturizing effect.
